Anthropic API compatibility

Call Vichar through the /v1/messages endpoint.

Vichar also serves POST /v1/messages, the Anthropic Messages API shape. Any tool that accepts an Anthropic base URL and API key can use Vichar: point it at https://api.vichar.io and use your vichar_* key.

curl https://api.vichar.io/v1/messages \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $VICHAR_API_KEY" \
  -H "anthropic-version: 2023-06-01" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "vichar-sonnet-5.5",
    "max_tokens": 256,
    "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}]
  }'
  • The response uses the Anthropic shape: content blocks, stop_reason, usage.input_tokens/output_tokens.
  • Use vichar-* model IDs. The endpoint works with the same catalogue as chat completions.
  • Streaming ("stream": true) emits Anthropic event:/data: pairs (message_start, content_block_delta, message_stop, ...).
  • Anthropic-SDK clients work by overriding base_url:
import anthropic

client = anthropic.Anthropic(
    base_url="https://api.vichar.io",
    api_key="vichar_...",
)
msg = client.messages.create(
    model="vichar-sonnet-5.5",
    max_tokens=256,
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}],
)
